Exclusive

I've produced this new print of my Lance-Corporal piece that I did recently. It's a limited print which is a first time for me (I usually do open prints). There will only be 30 of them made. They'll be sold exclusively by Action Figure Freddy in San Francisco. I'm guessing they'll go on sale this week sometime. AFF also sells my other prints and Bookplate Betties, so if you're in the hood and want to pick'em up that's a good place to do it.

Between Rounds

Next weekend Gallery Nucleus opens a Street Fighter tribute group art exhibition. This gave me a great opportunity to get this Chun-li piece out of my system. Chun-li was always my favorite Street Fighter character, as a young man I spent many an afternoon daydreaming of those thighs spinning through the air. Sigh.
Anyway, the original art will be available for purchase at Gallery Nucleus April 25, 2009 - May 11, 2009.

It's a gift for a couple friends... friends who are a couple. You know what I mean. There are two of them. Friends I mean.
Anyway she's their creation HyperJen.

I was going for more of a retro 50's version of the character.


I couldn't decide which version of the scan to post, so you get both! I like the crispness of the high contrast scan but I also like the cool variations in materials that you can see in the color scan. Including the zip-a-tone on the space stuff and rocket.


Inking is fun. I need to get back into it more.

Announcement

I'm very excited to announce the re-release of my sold out book Belle du Jour! It's being published in France in May 2009 by Fluide Glamour (a division of Fluide Glacial). It will be part of their art book series, a follow up to the Arthur De Pins art book. Which is quite an honor, Arthur is one of my favorite artists.

The book will contain all of the same art but with a different format, presentation and layout. It's going to look really spiffy, I can't wait for everyone to see it.


This is Fluide Glamour's 2009 catalog used for the recent BD festival at Angoulême to promote the book. It was an exciting surprise to see my drawing on the cover.

Wondercon Commissions

Wondercon was fun as always. Business was a bit slow overall though. Which wasn't so bad since it gave me some more time to spend on commissions.

I'll have my latest book, Bookplate Betties naturally. As well as two new prints available. My second Le Frou Frou piece and my new Valentines day piece. I'll also have a selection of my older prints still available. Depending on table space I may not have them visible, if so ask if you're interested.



And speaking of prints; in slightly related news my Peeping Totoro piece that I did for the Totoro Forest Project is now available for order exclusively at Gallery Nucleus. Like the show, the proceeds will go toward the Totoro no Furusato Forest Foundation.

International Girl of Mystery

Yuki7 is Kevin Dart's super cool 60's Japanese spy girl. Needless to say I flipped out when he asked me to do my version of her for his up coming book. Kevin is very influenced by 60's spy movie posters so I tried to think of something from the same genre and era but from a totally different direction. I also thought Yuki would make a great comic the first time I even saw her. So it seemed immediately natural to do a Jim Steranko take on the character. It was a blast, I'd have a lot of fun if I got to do a whole comic like this.

Boy, It felt really good to ink a page again. It's been awhile.
