I did this piece to contribute to "Art Blocks for Ghana", a charity art auction by artists in the animation and illustration community to help build a children's Home in Ghana.
This was a tough one. We were required to paint on these square wooden blocks, which meant I needed to paint opaquely. I haven't painted in a non transparent method in a good long time, so I was a bit rusty.
that's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWWOOOAAAAOOOOW
ReplyDeleteWow THIS MEANS ALOT. Im from Ghana and i know your art will do some good. thank you very much
ReplyDeleteFantástico, meu amigo!
ReplyDeleteParabéns pela ilustração.
Cool!
ReplyDeleteHow did you transfer your line drawing to the block? Just eyeball it?
you did fabulous!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! Love that you kept the wood grain and incorporated it into the shadows. Great work!
ReplyDeletemmm... maybe you should work more in non transparent methods
ReplyDeletethis i easily best of your works so far. simply amazing
waaw it's very beautiful <3
ReplyDeleteFantastic--man, that wood grain couldn't be any more perfect.
ReplyDeleteLovely piece Bill-the non-opaque approach worked fine. Don Shank recommended I put down a coat of Jesso primer first which helped a lot. Made the panel more like canvas.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Jesso would have made it easier, but I wanted to retain the woodgrain. Crystal clear and thin washes of matte medium made it work.
ReplyDeletewow that is really cute i love it
ReplyDeleteAnother great piece !
ReplyDelete!!!
ReplyDeleteAh man, do you have to do everything so great, sheesh. I think that you need to quit your job and just churn out paintings now, I'm sure Ikumi would understand.
so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteWow! This one is amazing Bill! One of the nicest ones I've seen for that project!
ReplyDeleteThat came out really nice, I like the solidity of it. You should paint like this more often!
ReplyDeletethis is cool
ReplyDeleteFantastic art!
ReplyDeleteProcess post?
ReplyDeleteGreat piece. Great cause!
ReplyDeleteincredible !!
ReplyDeleteWow, thanks guys. I'm glad you liked. Honestly I wasn't so sure about this one since I'm not used to painting like this.
ReplyDeleteI'll try to do it more often.
